Green WTMS 27-BET-2013

INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR COLLECTION, TRANSPORTATION, TREATMENT AND OPTIMIZED MATERIALS RECOVERY FROM END OF LIFE TYRES

The scope of the project is to design, develop, manufacture and erect an INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR COLLECTION, TRANSPORTATION, TREATMENT AND OPTIMIZED MATERIALS RECOVERY FROM END OF LIFE TYRES (Green WTMS) by using state of the art technologies on the technological field of integrated measurement systems, automation systems, ICT technologies, process optimization and sampling quality checks for monitoring and optimizing the procedure of collection, transport and mechanical processing.

The program funded from ESPA with Code 27ΒΕΤ2013.  Partners of the project are ECOELASTIKA SA, MOTION Hellas Ltd and RETIRE SA with the scientific co-operation of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH).

The technologies that incorporated in the Integrated System Green WTMS are related with industrial research (IR), aiming to obtain expertise. The utter objective to use this expertise as a means to develop new and improve existing products, processes and services in the used tyre management scheme as “useful products” based on the “polluter pays” principle, in order to:

  • Fully control (quantitatively and qualitatively) the transportation and processing of used tyres in Greece, so that it is carried out in the most technically, environmentally and economically efficient way

  • Design an integrated system for management and recording of the collection and transportation of used tyres

  • Optimize the mechanical processing of used tyres

  • Maximize the recovery of all recyclable materials from tyres

  • Document for classification from waste to products, all of the products and by-products of the tyres processing procedure

  • Increase the quality of products and by-products of the final utilization of tyres (reclaim rubber, crumb rubber, TDF etc)

  • Analyse and compare utilization technologies of tyre crumb

  • Contribute in the increase of substitution percentage of synthetic rubber with recycled tyres (Greek mixture), in manufacturing new tyres

  • Assess the environmental impact as well as the environmental footprint of the processes

  • Analyse the proposed solution according to sustainability criteria, based on Life Cycle Analysis
